The Newton Police Department Citizen Police Academy is an 11-week program designed to give the citizens of Newton a working knowledge of the functions of their Police Department. Citizens who attend the Citizen Police Academy will examine various areas of law enforcement through classroom discussions, tours, visitations, hands-on experiences and a reservation to accompany a Newton Police Officer on a shift to observe how law enforcement in our community functions under actual conditions.
Purpose
The Citizen Police Academy has been designed to promote a better understanding between the community and the police officers who serve it. It offers an opportunity for citizens to learn about police procedures and to develop a basic understanding of the law enforcement profession. The Citizen Police Academy will provide a forum for citizens and police officers to unite and improve understanding of the interaction that is necessary to maintain a safe community.
