It is the City Clerk's philosophy to provide high-quality customer service to those who contact or visit Newton City Hall and to facilitate a positive and productive experience with local government.
History of Newton
The City of Newton was incorporated February 22, 1872, and became a Second Class City on January 22, 1880, and a First Class City on January 1, 1969. The 2016 estimated population of Newton was 19,105.
The City of Newton operates as a Commission-Manager form of government. The City Manager administers the affairs of the City, and the Commission sets the policy for the City (K.S.A. 12-1001 et seq.).
Newton City Hall is located at 201 E. 6th St. and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The City Clerk's office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Records Requests
Access to or copies of public records may be be obtained through filling out a records request form and submitting it to the City Clerk's office.
Licenses
The Clerk's office is also responsible for various licensing and applications which may be downloaded or obtained in the utility billing office.
