During the year, the Newton Police Department takes part in or hosts many community programs. The Police Department's involvement in these programs helps us stay involved in the community and allows us to raise awareness and gives opportunities for the public to provide us with information.

Citizen Police Academy

The Newton Police Department hosts a Citizen Police Academy every year. The Academy is an 11-week program that enables citizens to learn about the law enforcement profession and how it functions in our community.

Traffic Enforcement Programs

The Newton Police Department participates in the Kansas Department of Transportation's Special Traffic Enforcement Programs (STEP) at different times of the year. STEP includes the "Click it. Or ticket" and the "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest" programs.

Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Newton Police Department, along with other Harvey County officers, participates yearly in the Kansas Special Olympics Torch Run to raise money and awareness for the Kansas Special Olympics.
