Bethe Men's Basketball & USD 373 Elementary
On Tuesday, October 29th, Bethel College’s Thresher Gymnasium will come alive with the excitement of over 500 Newton elementary school students, who will be cheering on the Thresher men’s basketball team as they face off against Barclay College. This game is the culmination of a months-long partnership between Bethel College’s men’s basketball team and Newton’s elementary schools. Throughout the fall, Bethel players have made visits to the schools, spending time with students during lunch, sparking conversations, interest in sports, and building connections as positive role models. Head Coach Jayson Artaz sees the upcoming game as a meaningful extension of these efforts. “Our goal is to bridge the gap between Newton Schools and Bethel College, creating a space where kids can look up to these players as role models,” said Artaz. The game will feature special touches from the elementary students, including homemade signs and lively halftime games. Additionally, the children will learn about Bethel’s Champions of Character initiative, which promotes values like respect and integrity.
