The City of Newton will celebrate Arbor Day Thursday at Midtown Arboretum.
Park Department staff will gather at 12:45 p.m. to plant three trees and a new rain garden with help from 4th-graders at Sunset Elementary School.
A rain garden includes colorful native plants strategically located to collect, percolate and filter rain that fall on hard surfaces like roofs, driveways or streets to minimize the impact of excessive runoff from these surfaces into lakes and streams.
