Street resurfacing schedule for August 18th-August 20th

The Street Division has scheduled the following streets for slurry seal beginning August 18th: (dates are subject to change)

Update: Main Street rail crossing to reopen Thursday morning

UPDATE: Main Street is now expected to remain closed at the railroad crossing until Thursday morning, after repair of a significant water main break under the tracks.

Main Street and railroad crossing closed due to water main break

A water main break occurred beneath the railroad tracks on Main Street and was reported by a BNSF employee around 1 a.m. Monday. The City of Newton Water Division is actively working on the break, with the City and BNSF coordinating repairs because both City and railroad infrastructure were impacted. Main Street is currently closed near E. 3rd Street and Main Street and near the tracks.

City & County seek transportation safety feedback

Community members are invited to participate in one of three open houses to review the options identified in the Newton Transportation Safety Action Plan.

The open houses are part of finalizing the plan designed to create a safer, more connected community for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
