Park Division staff maintain over 670 acres of parks, bike paths, cemeteries, waterways, rights-of-way, and other acreage. The mission of the Park Division is to provide quality facilities for passive and organized recreation and to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the community.
Newton's 18 public parks include 15 playgrounds, one natural playground (at Centennial), one skate park (at Okerberg), one splash park (at Spring Lake), one wetland park, one disc golf course (at Centennial), one dog park (at Centennial), 10 open shelters, and four enclosed shelters.
Since 2023, Newton City parks have been tobacco-free.
